Default A/C Compressor/Clutch noisy

Hi - there is an awful racket noise from the area of teh a/c compressor. It only appears when the A/C is on in Auto or Manual.

The air is cold when it runs.

Previously there was a noise like a slipping belt ocassionally on moving off from cold start. Now it has escalated to this noise.

Perhaps it is just the clutch. How do I eliminate other possibilities and just order a replacement clutch mechanism?

Thanks for any advice or guidance.

If anyone is interested...

I got a mobile A/C specialist to come to my house and ran checks on the system. It appears that there is some breakdown in the compressor which filled the orifice filter totally with metal filings

I need a new compressor and a complete flush out of the system.

The vehicle is less than 3 years old - does anyone know if the warranty is transferable and also if Chevrolet would be interested now that the vehicle is in England?

Also - Parts4chevys.com have been extremely helpful and are able to ship parts to the UK with no bother or excuses. If you need a good price check out their site first.

Cheers,

Though I have a 1997 Chevy Lumina, my compressor has quite a bit of noise also, and this seems to be one of the few compressor thread. The air conditioner hasn't worked since I owned the car because of a leak in the A/C system, so it's not like I even use the thing, but noise is never a good thing. I took the belt off and free-spun the pulley and it scratches like hell. Ordered a new Clutch bearing from O'Reilly, got the part in and realized I have no idea how to take the thing apart. Does anyone know of a company that produces service manuals for compressors? It's marked Delphi 5145 and searched the internet and the service manuals I have and nothing makes mention to compressor servicing and whatnot. I just need to disassemble the pulley and bearing.

I have a 2003 yukon xl and at 40000 miles my ac started spitting black plastic and making a terrible noise this was in 2004 when I spoke with customer care I was told that I did not merit any kind help with the repair because my warr was expired. I did not have enough history with them because I had all my oil changes and a 30000 mlies check with my dealer. I am still upset because for $43000 I expected more. This was my first new car and have had Nissans and Hondas with over 100000 and the AC new broke. Sadly GMC charges regular machanics high prices for these parts and it was a few hundred cheaper at the dealer. 13 months after replacing the entire system it started making noise again. I called my dealer he said it was only warr. for 12 months. I just try not to use it because they want me to replace it again, to add insult to injury my speedometer is broken now another 500. My next step is giong to be to buy the Factory Shop Manual from ebay and trouble shoot the exact problem and insist that that problem is what I want fixed because dealers don't want to repair they just replace at our cost.
