Default Bad A/C compressor clutch

The A/C went out on my wife's Venture a few months ago. I finally got her to take it into the shop and have it checked out. The shop said: "The compressor fuse was blown so they replaced the fuse and it immediately blew again. Then they put in a breaker and it kept tripping that breaker. Said the compressor was good but the clutch was bad."
They want $600 to replace the A/C compressor clutch (clutch only not compressor). A replacement clutch is $80 at the local APS.

So what do I need to do to replace the Compressor Clutch on my 2000 Venture?

If it's original, and you plan on keeping it, I'd look into a remain compressor with clutch.

I do not plan on keeping this van for long and I really do not want to change the whole compressor as I do not want to mess with the freon.

Thats understandable. My point was a 12 model year old car, if you were to keep it, you might be throwing good money after bad. It is a a job to replace the clutch, you will need special tools. I'd suggest shop around to get it done for a better price. This being a van it will have to come out, and be replaced on the bench. You might "negotiate" the price if you can evacuate the system, and pull it yourself take it to them.
