Default Cam sensor change.

I have a improper cam signal beginning to take place on my 2008 Suburban with the Flex Fuel 5.3 L V-8. Checked the wiring hook up and it is secure with no bare wires. So, I will be removing and replacing it soon. Just curious if it's possible to do the job without first removing the engine parts that it is behind. It looks possible and I don't have a service manual to verify the procedure. Simply looks as if you remove the clip in lead and then loosen and remove the bolt that holds it in place. Any info on this would be appreciated.
