Default Cat 0430 code

My 2013 Tahoe LTZ with 5.3ltr has been giving me a 430 cat code for about 2 months. I took it to the local muffler guys that has been around forever and got a quote on a new cat system ($1171) They said it wasn't urgent to replace it, which I need time to save up for anyway. I drive Uber and have put about 3000 miles on the rig since the first 430 code appeared. Yesterday I gave a parts guy from our local Chevy dealer a ride, and he said that I should clear the code and sell the Tahoe immediately because my engine is going to fail at any time. I have searched this issue online and can't find anything that says a bad cat means that the engine is about to go to the scrap heap. So, as you all can imagine, I am a bit stressed about this new information and wanted more feedback. I could take it to a mechanic, but I dont know any that I can say for certain would be honest with me.
Thanks so much!

as long as the cat is not restricting the exhaust and causing misfires...a po430 won't damage anything.
