Changing Out In-Dash Navigation - Questions
Hey all. I have a 2009 Chevy Suburban and everything in there is currently stock. We're about to make a huge road trip across the country and want to swap out the head unit (are they still referred to like this?) with an Android model. I have a couple of questions.
- What is the latest Android for these? In my research, it seems to be Android 11, but I want to be sure I don't get something vastly outdated.
- I'm looking at the EONON R80 Model, any good/bad thoughts on this model?
- I think I'm experiencing, currently, that which could be considered an 'Alternator Whine'? Basically, this horrible whining sound comes through my speakers when we ramp up the RPMs in the car. It seems to dissipate if hit the power button in the rear radio unit (it turns on headphone mode). Any ideas? Do you think replacing the front head unit is going to make any difference for that?
- For anyone who has installed one of these, do we need some sort of GPS Antenna, and if so, do you have any recommendations?
Crutchfield is a good resource on aftermarket retrofits.
Be warned that swapping out the factory stuff can be an issue as everything is linked into the onboard computer systems and aftermarket stuff will affect many things.
It's not as simple as plug and play anymore.
