This was very interesting. I don't off road, but I can see how driving over things like branches could pull wiring underneath the vehicle. Thanks for the input!

 

I am trying to figure out where I should start. The PO449 code was detected at autozone and advance auto. I got a printout that says it could be purge or vent solenoinds defective, or fuel saturated vapor canister, or failed evap vent solenoid.

The parts aren't cheap, so would like to hear some knowledgeable advise as to what to look for and where and how, etc...

Any and all help would be appreciated.

THis is the third time I've had to reattach the wires to the evaporative canister solenoid after what appears to be mice have bitten them clean through at the connector. There are other gnaw marks on the connector and top of the canister but nowhere else that I can see on the car. Total mystery as to why they would chew only there. Craving charcoal? Huffing gas fumes?

Put some D-Con laced peanut butter on the canister.

Wonderful, I can't even reset mine which leads me to believe its the wiring too. You would think as much as we pay for this general motors junk that they would not leave wires and harnesses out in the open for off roading or rodents to tear up. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. Guess I'll replace everything and check the wiring, if its chewed I'm gonna fish it through some liquidtight and seal the fu** out of it.

 

Let us know when you find a vehicle that has all of its wiring and hoses sealed so we can all evaluate one of them. Personally I have never heard of anyone off-roading a Tahoe and destroying any wiring or hoses but let us know if you have.

I'm new to the site and new to the (2005)Tahoe family. I too have the solenoid issue and have a replacement for the bad one. The pics that have been posted will help me find it but I also need a service manual. I also feel that if you're going to keep a vehicle for a few years a service manual is a wise investment. Any suggestions on which service manual to purchase?

Welcome to the forum Armand, you are correct on having a manual, the factory manual is by far the best you can get... check out Helm inc for the factory manuals... also check ebay
