Check engine light code P0449
Was about to take it to the dealership so they can fix P0449 on my 07 Silverado Classic with the 4.8L. They wanted $85 just to hook it up. Stopped off at O'Reilly's and they pulled the code and cleared it out. The light came back on this evening, so I guess there is a bona fide problem. This one I think I can handle.
I am dealing with the same P0449 code on my 2007 Tahoe LT. Evaporative Emission Vent Valve Solenoid Malfunction. It popped on shortly after getting gas an suspect looking station and wondering if bad gas can cause this code. Also, wondering if a can of Seafoam or Heet could clear any debris or issues before buying the part suggested in much of this thread. Thanks
tdewald Welcome to the forum,
If it came on after fill up, you might want to recheck the gas cap for fit and tightness... it needs to click several times once closed. Might also try cleaning the o-ring seal and the filler neck seat too..
Give it a few stop start cycles and see if it goes out...

I agree with "in2pro", if this issue came up after a recent fill-up at a suspicious station, bad gas is a possibility. If after trying his suggestions the issue isn't fixed, I recommend a quick inspection by a certified technician.
Please keep us posted.

Can someone help out please! My 2000 chevy Suburban Service engine light came on I got the codes p0453,p0446,p0452... I was driving my truck and it was bogging out when i returned to my house I opened my gas cap and Air started to rush out of it ( sounded like a punctured tire) the next day my truck would not stay running or hold any type of Idle, when I also tried to give it gas to see if that worked the truck would Die out instantly. A few days have passed and the Truck now will hold an Idle but when I give it gas I will not pass 3000rpm The Rpms will drop and the truck gives off a backfire! Im not sure if I should change the fule tank pressure censor, The evap purge vent or if its a fuel pump Issue! Any Ideas or help?
Hi guys. new here to the forum. Dealing with a transfer case issue. I have a 2005 Avalanche Lt. I had the same 449 code. I went to the dealer after looking online for days, and i bought the vent solenoid that is in the rear by the gas tank, and the front solenoid that mounts to the front, top, of the intake manifold. I paid (with tax) $75 for both units from chevy dealer. I learned that they are connected and should be replaced together. I own a obd2 scanner and after 20 minutes of my labor replacing the two units, i cleared the code and the light has not come on since. That was around a week ago when i did the work.
When i pulled the old vent canister solenoid off of the rear i set it on the ground and noticed a half a cup of dirt poured out of it.
the rear vent solenoid# is:
acdelco # 214-2149
gm# 25932571
the front valve on the intake manifold# is:
acdelco# 214-1105
gm#12581282
again thats for my 05 avalanche 5.3 non flex fuel

On our 2008 suburban with 77000 miles yesterday morning, I had the P0442 code which I reset at O'Reilly with the code reader after replacing gas cap. The next morning, the Check Eng Light illuminated again. This time, the code was P0449. Both point to the Evap Canister Vent Valve Solenoid. I researched and there is a technical service bulletin on this issue. The tip is instead of paying $115 to $150 for the 2 pieces needed to replace the current setup from the dealership, you can get the 2006 year model vent valve solenoid and canister without the remote filter which is the old setup for $28 dollars and make the repair in under 20 minutes.
I replaced the current canister with the 2006 canister part number 025932571.
I bought a small piece of 5/8" heater hose and a couple hose clamps.
I followed this video on YouTube to do the install the above mentioned way:
If you would like to do it the GM TSB way, this video is very thorough:
This forum is what got me going and I really appreciate the contributions of all and hope this current summary can help someone else.
...I'll let you know in a few days if the light stays off...
EDIT: 07/30/2012
No more issues and I passed inspection today! Thank you all for your contributions. Dealership quote: $350-$500. My price with the help of chevroletforum.com...$39.00.

My vehicle 07 Avalanche 5.3L flex fuel. I ordered part number 20995472 as recommended in this thread, what I did not find out until I started the replacement was that I would need an adapter as well (PN 19257603). I liked the part 20995472 vs some of the other suggestions, because this one comes with all the hoses and new filter. Thanks to everyone who posted here that helps me and others looking to fix problems of this nature. It was posted earlier but this is a really good video. 2007 Suburban P0449 - YouTube
