collapsed lifter emulates rod knock
Hello All,
Looking at a 2011 Suburban 157k miles ,that when running sounds very much like a rod knocking (by a sent video under the hood), but the current owner was told by a reputable mechanic it is simply a collapsed lifer. Have looked at a myriad of youtubes over last 3-4 years on the very subject,,and seems there are so many variables on a collapsed lifter on the 5.3L motors.
Has anyone here ever actually heard different collapsed lifters and ends up sounding like a rod knocking (in person)?
Also,,just a very unscientific observation is,,it seems the root cause of the lifters giving fits,in the end is the plastic trays that the lifters are riding in.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.
This generation had AFM (Active Fuel Management) which caused some valve train problems sometimes resulting in engine replacement. I'd have my own tech look at it and not go by a video.
