I have a 1997 GMC suburban c1500 2x4 with a drum brake in the rpo is GU6 -- AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO
will a rear axle from s10 zr2 with disc brakes work?
or another rear axle 3.42 ratio with disc brakes and 5 lug wheels?
drum brakes suck (the self-adjuster doesn't work)
any suggestions would be great maybe a (g body van, Camaro, or impala?
or conversion kit & keep the same rear axle

Self-adjusters work on drum brakes, but its important to make sure the adjusters are "sharp" and that the star-wheels are not worn. I use "Neverseize" on the threads. Keeps dirt, dust and moisture out, so that they operate properly.

 

More bother and expensive to convert than fix it right. Your talking master cylinder, proportioning valves and possible ABS unit.
Parts stores carry rear brake hardware kits cheap. Those kits come with new springs and adjusters and will restore normal operation.
Whenever I service drum brakes, I put new hardware kits in.

 

Me too. They are "cheap insurance". Just gotta get out somewhere safe to reverse it to tighten them up real good by slamming or pumping the brakes hard.
