Could they have broken my transfer case?
Hey guys, I'm a long time reader and avid fan of the DIY forum but I wanted to run something by you.
I had my 2001 Suburban towed in a few weeks back after a plastic fuel line connection above the gas tank broke and left me and 3 boys stranded.
When I picked it up I noticed a scraping noise which seems to have gotten louder or either I got more annoyed by it. I took it back to the shop and they said it's a bad transfer case. I asked how they dropped gas tank the last time and he said he disconnected the drive shaft and then dropped the tank. Is it possible that reinstalling the drive shaft the wrong way caused this issue?
The unit is a push button 4WD and the scraping noise is there whether the engine is on or off(I rolled it down a hill in neutral). The noise is noticeable enough I know it wasn't there before I had the work done and it seems too much of a coincidence to have gone bad at the same time.
Feedback appreciated.

If the rig has 4x4 there should be a way to put the drive train into neutral.
I'm not sure on push button 4x4 but manual 4x4 you can put the drive train into neutral and it should disengage the entire drivetrain.
Really just need more info on what you were doing before the line broke, I cant emagine a line just breaking while going down the road.
Respectfully do we know the entire story?
Were you off roading or anything prior to the rig breaking down?
