Disabling OnStar

Pull off the trim piece around the radio, take off the power port panel, then the HVAC panel (4 screws). The OnStar module will be right in front of you at the bottom. Use a long screw driver to pull back clip on the left side of the module, then slide the module towards you. There should be plenty of slack on the cables. If you unplug the OnStar module you won't be able to use your Bluetooth features.

Really? so your saying if I was designing a system to prevent a Tahoe from being stolen, I wouldn't have thought to burry it way down deep in the vehicle to prevent this?
Or can I go to any lot, pull the onstar, and drive off?
I would hope GM would plan better than that...
In any case, I'd love to be able to remotely shut down my vehicle, however I'm not going to pay monthly for it... if it's stolen, I dont want it back, just cut me a check and be done with it.

I often wonder if GM surreptitiously collects driver and vehicle data using OnStar regardless of whether it's on an active subscription or not? Personally, I could care less. But the data could be used for all kinds of benign research up to getting service data to use against the owner in the instance of a major repair claim.
