Disabling OnStar
I often wonder if GM surreptitiously collects driver and vehicle data using OnStar regardless of whether it's on an active subscription or not? Personally, I could care less. But the data could be used for all kinds of benign research up to getting service data to use against the owner in the instance of a major repair claim.

OnStar Tracks Cars Even After Service Is Cancelled | TheBlaze.com
have you heard the latest its been on the news OnStar regardless if you pay for the service starting...ummm..NOW will track you vehicle location speed and some other undefined info.
You do know that with an active OnStar system the mic you speak into when its active can be turned on and off at OnStars..excuse me GM's will.
Yes its sounds like tin foil hat stuff Google it you will see they just owned up to it in the last week or so.

I know this is an old thread, but when I was looking for info on doing this, this was one of the first threads on the Google Search, so for those that come across this....
I have a 2011 Suburban, when I attempted to disconnect the VCIM, it did throw error codes. There are two white plugins on the back of the VCIM, if either one is removed it will display on the DIC that 4 wheel drive, stabilitrac, park assist, and one other item was not working.
When attempting to switch between 2 wheel, 4 hi or lo, on the control it would not work. Plugging both of the white plugs back, error went away, however service light stayed on for a while and eventually went away.
I went with the antenna removal, which can be done without taking off the center console items. Behind the glove box is the Delphi box that the VCIM connects to. No screws needed. With the antenna removed, 9 out of 10 calls failed using onstar, and those that did go through ended up dropping. I did this over a period of several days.

So that means by disconnecting the antenna the black helicopters only have a 1 in 10 chance of tracking you
Thanks for the update and for the FYI on the other errors, good to know that those connections can cause those
