Dreaded passlock failure..
My daily driver is a 2000 Suburban. Over the last few months I started getting the security light on solid while driving. Lately it's been coming on every day. I knew I was living on borrowed time. I did tons of research on repairs and decided to go with the Newrockies module. It's pricey for what you get but..I need my car and I need it reliable. I didn't want to replaced the lock housing sensor because, from what I read, the passlock sensor has a 100% failure rate. And, it would require removing the airbag and the steering wheel. I also didn't want to try using a resistor on the wires coming out of the lock housing. So, I rolled the dice and ordered the Newrockies module. I soldered it in, did the relearn procedure and my old girl fired right up. Newrockies says this is a permanent fix. I'm hoping it will last a few more years as I plan to drive this thing Nevertheless, as the passkey/passlock is a constant issue with GM vehicles I thought I'd throw out how I fixed mine. Some pointers.. Read the instructions very carefully and know the difference between splice and cut. On mine all wires used were spliced in except the yellow wire which was cut and wired into the module connection. Nevertheless, if you're getting the security light or fail to start due to passlock/passkey this may work for you.
Thanks! The resistor isn't a "fix" as you can't just leave it installed all the time. GM really messed anti-theft up. I've delt with passlock II, thinking at some point with turn signal switch, clock spring, etc, I should just put a zipper on the steering wheel.
