I use 5w-30 Mobil 1 you can never go wrong with that. I have used it since I bought my tahoe. A little off the subject but, ZX how often should you activate 4 WD so that the fluids don't freeze or go bad?

 

Good question.
I would suggest that you lock into 4WD Hi and Low at least once every 6 months (on slippery pavement or dirt).

 

What is the oil filter number for our New Body Tahoes? Can anyone confirm this is the same oil filter part number for a new body 07 silverado 5.3L non E-85?

 

Same filter for all 07 and 08 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L Vortec engines:

I'm a die hard Amsoil fan. ZX informed me that it's not really GM Certified, but it does exceed all the specs. Amsoil just hasn't paid GM to certify it for them. So there may be a warranty issue if the engine fails and they feel it's the Amsoil's fault.[/align][/align]But, I researched this forever when I was switching from Dino oil. Every test I found from independent labratories found that Amsoil far exceeded Mobil1. Add to that the extended drain intervals, and I was sold. I'm running the 5w30 because the 0W30 didn't prove any mileage increases, so I figured I'd save the little bit of money per quart, and go with the 25k/1yr oil. I have exceeded this in my truck, but my 6.0L burns some oil anyway, so it gets topped off with fresh oil. But normally I only change them once per year. Go ahead and research for yourself. I'm not saying Mobil1 is bad at all. It's a great oil, especially at 5k drain intervals, but I just stepped up a bit. There's a website bobistheoilguy.com. Tons of reading.[/align]

 

Actually Amsoil AS, AT, XLM, XLF, XLT oils are all GM6094M registered now however; no matter what product you use it is not a good idea to exceed either one year, the engine oil life monitor or 10,000 miles (whichever comes first) between oil changes.

Is that a typo? 0w30 or 10w30?

 

0W-30 should only be used in very cold climates where the ambient temperature is normally -20 degrees or colder, in this case 0W-30 oil or 5W-30 synthetic oil is recommended.

 

I run Mobil 1 5W-30 and a K&N oil filter (yes i also have the K&N air filter)...ZX has talked about this topic on a few occassions. I can tell you one thing with these vehicles averaging close to $40k why would you want to save less than $40 on a 6 quarts of oil and a filter....that kind of thinking is for fleet maintenance not for your personal vehicles (in my personal opinion)...you can save the $40 in 2 or 3 weeks by brown bagging your lunch to work...it makes no sense to skimp out on the maintenance of the 2nd biggest investment most people make. I run Amsoil on my motorcycles and change them once a year, on my tahoe i change at about 10% or 5% oil life. I think the engineers have already determinedtheoil weight that best suits the engine how is it that an average Joe reading from the internet or word of mouth circumvent 100's of thousands of miles of testing and field work... Stick to the manual, do change to synthetic. By the way just recently towed an enclosed M/C trailer and bike for about 750 miles. I averaged 14.2 MPG which I thought was outstanding for such a heavy vehicle pulling about 2,500 lbs of trailer and bike. The only thing I did was not let the speedometer exceed 55 miles per hour...on that move alone I must have saved at least the $40 oil change....ZX thanks for the good work at GM...this is by far the best vehicle I have owned...(Nissans, Fords, Chryslers, Mazda - have nothing on this fine SUV...)
