Erractic fuel gauge

Erractic fuel gauge
I just picked up an 01 Suburban 1500. The fuel gauge is erratic. Does the cluster rebuild usually take care of this? Also my oil gauge vibrates.

With the 95-99 suburbans usually it is the sending unit that goes out as the ground gets corroded in the tank. Or the stepper motor(or something like that) could be the issue

It is a common issue, and it is usually the stepper motors, and a rebuild usually cures it.
I went a step further on my 01. Instead of a rebuild, I bought an HD cluster, which includes the trans temp gauge.

A sending unit is cheaper then a cluster rebuild but much more time to replace and I hate pulling gas tanks.
I would have to send my cluster in for a rebuild and I would have to drive my vehicle without one while it was out. I'm wondering if the truck would run with no cluster. I don't see why it wouldn't. The cluster is just outputs so it shouldn't effect the truck.
Since I can't get a definite answer on this issue I think I'll order up a sender and pull the tank. Then I'll be able to move the sender while plugged in and see if the gauge still acts up. If so I'll put the new one in.
