Default Faint relay noise in dash....

Hello from NC! I am a new Tahoe owner, and have absolutely loved the vehicle so far.

Recently, there has been a faint relay-type noise coming from the dash. Sounds like it is under and to the left of the steering column. I is a constant "brush" type noise. I know how a relay sounds, and it is more muffled than a standard relay click. It is in a fairly regular tempo, and has become more and more frequent. Usually it is on from the time the Tahoe is started until it is turned off, but not every time. I say this to say it doesn't start after the Tahoe is started.... it either does it the whole time, or not at all.

I have tried moving all controls on the column, resetting lights, wipers, flashers, cruise, etc....

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks and I look forward the the forum.

Welcome to the forum. Can't help but why not just take it in and let them fix it?

Thanks 73!

I'm a little reluctant to go to the "stealer"-ships. Forgot to mention it is a 2003 and is not under warranty, but to update... I believe it is the tachometer. Any suggestions on rebuild services for instrument clusters?

The sound you are hearing is probably the same one in my 03 burb, same as my 03 gmc sierra 1500. If you turn the A/C directional switch to anything other than face, (i.e. mix, floor, etc) it will likely go away. The damper is trying to open all the way when it is already open all the way.

Good luck!

And I think there was either a recall or class action lawsuit on the instrument cluster.

Chris, Shark, if I take mine to the dealership, and that part was a recall, they should fix it free of charge right?

Awesome info guys! I will check it when I get home tonight. Is there a site to run your VIN for recall info?
