Tahoe & SuburbanThe power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.
I have a 2003 Suburban. I had an accident and I need to replace the bumper bracket that is attached to the front tip of the frame. GM part # 1244013. The one attached to the car is welded on, but the replacement part bolts on. I asked GM if this is the correct replacement part, and they confirmed it is. I took a look at the scrap yard and it looks like it can welded and bolted on. Does anyone have experience with this? It looks like the replacement bracket is meant to slide in to the frame and through bolt in place. I thought it would be simple enough to cut the old bracket off and slide this new piece in. there is 1 hole currently in the frame the bolt might go though, but I would have to drill the other side. I was going to try and heat and bend the pieces back in to place, but a bolt on part would be so much simpler. pictures attached.
You can try using a cut off tool to cut the weld. You might also find the frame might be bent some, so that the new piece will be difficult to install.
Quick update. It appears what I saw as a bolt on piece is a repair piece. I found a website with PDF copy of a repair manual and the vertical portion of the bracket is to be cut off. There is a template you use of mark and dill 3- 13mm holes to bolt the piece in to the end of the frame tube. Seems pretty obvious now that I see the schematic.
