Thumbs down Fuel Guage

The fuel gauge jumps all over the place while going down the road. The only time I seem to ge an accrate reading is if I set still long enough for the fuel to settle down or if I fill the gas tank up. What could cause this problem ?
Thanks

Tried the oil trick it settled down some. Now I get a fairly accurate reading to 1/2 tank. Now it does not have to be moving, When I start the engine it starts going crazy. It goes all the way past full and only stops when it hits th needle on the gauge below it. Some times it goes from full to empty then back to full or where ever it decides to stop then some times it just moves all over the face of the gauge.

What year is your truck? There was a problem with the stepper motors for the gauges from 2003 to 2006. Usually when one of the gauges goes bad, the others will follow. I had that problem and replaced all 6 of the stepper motors.

Back to the sending unit or a bad wire or connection between the sending unit and the gauge.
