Help with p0449 & p0455 codes
They otta work with you. I bought a used Ford several years ago for my Niece with an extended drive train warrenty. Within 2 months the clutch went out. Took it back to dealer, "not covered", I asked what good that extended drive train warrenty I bought was good for? Anyway the dealer split the cost to replace the clutch with me, best I could do.
I am currently working on this issue (p0455) on my 05 Avalanche. I just picked up the truck a month ago and I replaced the gas cap with a Stant locking cap. After a week or so I got the message on the DIC to "tighten gas cap" and I did remove and re-tighten the cap. The next day about 1/2 a mile down the road (about the same place as the day before) the same message on the DIC and this time on comes the check engine light.
Now I have returned to the original fuel cap, and the code also returned. I replaced the "new" locking gas cap and the code once again returned.
I crawled under the rear of the truck yesterday and noticed that the rear sections of the frame seem to be rusty, and as if someone sprayed paint or undercoating on them and its peeling. I also noticed the ground strap from the fuel neck came down to the frame where another ground strap was fastened to the frame and that area was very corroded, so I removed and clean all the area, ground straps and secured and cleared the code.
I drove the truck today and no message on the DIC, but its only one day...
I will keep posting my attempts to fix this issue.

So I'm at the dealer with my 08 Tahoe check engine light on. P0449 code EVAP vent valve needs to replace. I looked up EPA, which states EVAP system and related parts covered under warranty up to 80,000 miles or 8 years. So can someone please explain to me why is the EVAP canister vent or vent valve NOT covered under this same warranty. It seem to me if it is an emission related part then it should fall under the same policy.

GM the ball is in your court, please explain.

1st The ground strap thing did not work for me... The Tighten Gas Cap message came back on the "DIC" yesterday...
2nd I either read or herd somewhere that GM has taken or wants to take the stand that the "new" GM (since emerging from bankruptcy) is not responsible for recalls, warranty's etc that the old GM company was responsible for.
Anyone else hear this???
Hello, I have the same problem with my 07 avalanche LTZ the dealer said the part I need to replace is evap purge valve part#12597567. They wanted $250 to change it out even though I talked to mech and he said its a 30min job. Any way I ordered the part for $26 from GMparts but I can't figure out where it is....any help?
Thanks
I have looked all over the truck

vstol,
I purchased my parts from RK Chevrolet in Va Beach, Va. Any Chevy dealer should carry it for the same price. See the links for a picture of the part, the part number, and instruction on how to troubleshoot and replace the part.

I recently picked up the DTC P0449 code on my 2005 GMC Yukon. It has the 4.8 liter motor and has 93,000 miles on it. It was the EVAP Canister Vent Valve that fixed the problem. Cost was $30.77 for that part and it's easy to replace on the Yukon and Tahoe.
I replaced mine also on my 05... Simple to do and if it wasn't for the complicated clip on the hose it wouldn't have taken any tools to change. 5 minute job on the 05 model year.
I am fed up with GM after buying many vehicles from Corvettes to Cadillacs from them. Our present Tahoe 07 had the EVAP/gas cap code and after they charged me 150 to replace the purge solenoid the hose fell off a week later and I corrected it myself. The fact is so many of these EVAP failures are covered under warranty but GM is in " screw the consumer mode" and I strongly feel a class action suit is the solution. I.like many. am just too damned tired of getting screwed over!!!
