Help with p0449 & p0455 codes
I am fed up with GM after buying many vehicles from Corvettes to Cadillacs from them. Our present Tahoe 07 had the EVAP/gas cap code and after they charged me 150 to replace the purge solenoid the hose fell off a week later and I corrected it myself. The fact is so many of these EVAP failures are covered under warranty but GM is in " screw the consumer mode" and I strongly feel a class action suit is the solution. I.like many. am just too damned tired of getting screwed over!!!

Here is a little bit of advice that would save you hours.Take it somewhere and have it smoke tested.
It is vaporized baby oil its a bright white smoke and can find the smallest of leaks in the tangle of all those black hoses. Each sub system can be blocked and checked.
They will tell you whats leaking and where it is.Best $75.00 you can spend.

Well, I'm dealing with the same thing on my Silverado. I'll get this replaced - (as I'm not mechanically inclined) - but I've got to know. What the heck does this part do in the first place? It seems like an "overhead" part imposed by federal standards. Can I just claim this as a deduction on my taxes?

I just asked the parts desk at the dealership to look up my truck by VIN and find me the right part. They gave me the "updated" version. They probably don't even sell the old version anymore.
The part was around $160+tax.

well here is some good news if your having the work done somewhere there is a federal mandate they cannot charge you tax on emissions replacement parts. Also all cats have a 100k 8 yr warranty on them know from dealers, being an honest garage i have saved people thousands by being a stand up guy on that little info right there.
Its a PITA for the shops..i know this..have to make you have a 'No Tax Emissions slot' in your computer but they will save a little green

i have an 05 silverado with a p0449 code. checked to make sure i had 12 volts at purge & vent valve (after inspecting wiring & hoses) made a jumper ground wire for vent valve, it would not cycle. found on amazon.com for $13 plus shipping total was $18.87 thru shop acdelco. acdelco pt. #214-2149. also had a 2147, but the 49 fit a lot more vehicles close to mine. amazon will tell you it doesn't fit, but it does. installed, (10 min...maybe) cleared the code. i think i'm on my 9th or 10th drive cycle and no MIL so far! if you get from amazon, they refer to it as vapor cannister purge valve, even though it's the vent valve, and they have pages of them! good luck
For my 06 chevy crew cab, I bought AC-DELCO 214-2149 for around $20 total from Amazon.com (includes shipping) I went to my local Oreily Auto, asked if they sold heater hose by the foot...they didn't, but they gave me about a 4' section they had as scrap. Didn't cost a dime. And I paid $2 for 2 hose clamps.
I removed my vent valve solenoid canister by unbolting the bracket from the frame rail first because I couldn't figure out how the canister was mounted to the bracket.
I used about a foot or so of the heater hose, and connected each end to the canister and the filter box (mounted right next to the fuel tank)
Plugged the wire back in, started the truck, and still had the engine light on.....drove it around the block, did a few more things, then restared it and no light.
On my old canister, I took the cap off of it, and it was full of fine, powdery dust.
I'm seeing people on here say they spent $400 dollars for the same thing. To those of you researcing this going forward....DON'T TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC OR DEALERSHIP OTHER THAN TO GET THE CODE READ. If it's P0449, you can fix this yourself. (i'm lucky I even know how to change oil....meaning, I'm not a mechanic, but this was simple)
