Default RE: How to install OEM Nav on 2007 Tahoe

Hi, new to this forum and still trying to figure out how it works!
I have a 2007 Tahoe LS non-Bose and I want to install a stock GM navigtion and rear DVD system part#xxxxx102.
I don't want to fork out any cash until I know it will work!
Member ZX1100F1 said it will work but I will need an external amp? Is that a stock Bose amp???
Anybody who can providea run down of what will be needed to complete this install would be appreciated!
Any help will be great
Thanks

I believe its possible without the Bose Amp, I have seen posts about people installing the Nav without Boseand seen pictures of tahoes and suburbans on Chevy's websitewithout the front consoles but with the base 40/20/40 bench seat. I went on there website and it looks like you can have a LS with a 40/20/40 Bench seat and without bose. There is a post about all the parts you will need for a nav install at the top of the screen. All you will need is a Version 1.10 or 2.0 Map dvd, the GPS antenna, and the nav plug kit you can get from JP customs. It has the Speed Sensor plug, theONStar Plug so turn by turn directions work right, and if you want, the plug to output the dvd playback from the Nav unit. I got both and asked for some extra pins for the plugs so i can connect the flipdown DVD screen and wireless headphones to the Factory Nav. I followed theinstructions to install my Nav with bose and everything works great. Including the rear factory controls. I installed the factory Nav with DVD. I would go with a aftermarket screen either the flipdown or headrest screens. I wired it into the AUX input on the factory head unit so I dont have to remove the cd thats in the Nav unit to play a dvd. I just select AUX to hear and see the dvd playing in the front ( with the help of lockpick)and use the Flipdown Remote to control it, or I can choose to play anything else and the back passengers can listen to the headphones that came withmy aftermarketDVD flipdown screen. If you have the factory flipdown screen, then the kids can't watch a movie and you listen to a CD at the same time. Your stuck to FM, XM, or the mp3 Jack thats on the front of the unit. I hope this helps

The post you refer to at the top of the screen that includes a parts list to complete install???????
Is that page one(1) written by"ZX" of the forum thread on how to install nav? or is there something else I should see?

Yes, thats the one. you will need the nav unit part either 15882766 or 15940102, the GPS antenna, part 15201798, the Map DVD either 15807780 for V1.10 or 15934919 for V2.0. And the connectors from JP customs. As far as the rear camera, I would get the extra pins from JP customs so you can add an aftermarket camera or get the lock pick, which has the rear camera RCA input for you already. After you get it all installed, you might have to get the Nav radio unlocked and reprogrammed for your car at the dealer if the unit is used. Just read over the post on this topic and im sure that you won't have any problems installing it. I been happy with my install and I like the fact that everything fits right into place.

Thanks that helps alot!
I have the 15940102 unit and the factory flip down DVD screen coming.
A few more questions.
The connectors from JP customs??? What are they for again?
Do I need the wiring harness that goes from the nav unit to the flip down DVD screen or will that already be factory wired and stuffed up in the headliner??
If it is not pre-wired from GM......What route does the wiring take to get from the DVD to the NAV unit??
You guys are great!
Thanks again for the help.

To connect the factory screen to the factory Headunit, you will need the wiring harness that connects the two. I serious doubt that its already there. On my LT1 , they were not present.

The JP customs Nav wiring kit has Two plugs. One which was brown that has one wire that connects the Speed sensor to the Nav so the nav can still track you even though you may lose the GPS signal, which happens time to time when driving under trees, under tunnels, bridges, or near tall buildings. It also helps the turn by turn voice guidance work correctly.

The other smaller connector, (mine was grey) that connects between the Nav unit and the onstar module under the radio. That connector is needed for the turn by turn voice guidance to work right, also, its needed for the Voice recognition features to work. If you want to take full advantage of the naviagtion features, I would recommend to make these connections.

I got an optional plug for 5.00 more which has rca output that could connect other screens to the Nav. This plug could be used to add AUX Audio/Video inputs to your NAV and for connecting Wireless headphones too. I bought extra pins to go into the plug at radioshack so I could have everything connected to the Nav unit. If you choose to make your own wiring harness to connect your factory screen, this plug would come in handy. If the screen is used and it has some of the wiring still atached to the screen, you could do a search for the wiring diagram for the flipdown screen

If you rather not build your own, wiring harness, Im not sure on the part number you would need for the flipdown screen. Maybe someone else knows. As far as the best route to place the wires, maybe someone can give some advice. I had my aftermarket flipdown/DVD screen installed and I told them connect every input and output on the screen and route all the signal wires (Audio/Video/IR repeater) to under the passenger seat. A few months later, I installed the nav unit and made all my connections between the two.

Hi all. Thanks for all your input on this website. I just installed my brand new factory sealed 2007 Tahoe Navigation. Everything works perfectly except that the head unit will not recognize the new Map DVD.I have the latest version (15934919) in the new model head unit (15940102). Everything from CD play to DVD movies to perfect sound quality. When I go to load the MAP DVD the display reads "Checking the MAP DVD." after about 30 seconds a message pops up and reads "The disc installed is not a MAP DVD." The whole package I received was factory sealed and brand new. Can anyone offer advice? Do you think it is the DVD... .or do you think it may be the headunit? I did read a post from Octboer last year of someone having the same problem and there was a RAM problem with the head unit. Well, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all!

Not a smart *** at all.... The MAP DVD was inserted in the slot behind the display where it belongs. I dont know if it is a disc error or my headunit is bad.
