Lift gate Problem

I have a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe with only 43,000 miles on it. The rear lift gate will not fully open in the power lift mode. By hand or remote it only opens about 1/3 of the way and shuts again. If I change the lift gate mode to manual it will open with difficulty but will not stay open and slams shut. What is the problem?

Have to agree that it sounds like one or both struts have gone Tango Uniform. Sort of an early failure tho.
Relatively a cheap and easy fix. Be sure to support the lift gate w/ a 2X4 before disconnecting the struts to replace. The lift mechanism will not hold it up by itself.

Power Struts
Tahoe at dealer, 43,000 miles and the struts are both leaking. Had my 2003 Tahoe to 198,000 miles with not one problem. Seems Chevy (GM) quality has indeed shrank to new lows. Most likely will not be buying any more Chevy's. Not sure yet what I will be driving next

I wouldn't give up on it yet, Struts are a wear item, and your out of pocket should be under $100 right?
I'd give customer service a call and see if they won't help you out, since it's so new...

Update
Hello All, Both struts replaced and tailgate works again, I have an extended warranty so it was only $80.00. I now know what to look for so I will fix them in the future myself. The dealer also found a hole in my radiator that was leaking. New radiator also but thankfully no additional charges to me. All of this on a Tahoe with only 43,000 miles on it. I am very concerned about the GM quality. We shall see how it goes.
