Hi all.

I have a 2001 Tahoe 5.3 Autoride with 160k, I have recently noticed an intermittent noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, sounds like a buzzing or vibration. I have ruled out brakes and Autoride compressor.

Any ideas? Let me know your thoughts.

After doing a little more investigation I believe I may be hearing clutch chatter from from the eaton locking Rear diff. I will try a flush and re-fill and see if that fixes it, if not, does anybody have experience changing the clutch plates, if so, what should I be prepared for?

Welcome to the forum.

Since the Eaton is a locking differential, I doubt that it's the noise source. Have you thought about the fuel pump?

 

Hmmm.. I had'nt thought about that, would it be an intermittent noise. The noise sounds almost like a heat shield or something that when the harmonics are just right will create the sound.

 

Does yours have a heat shield between the spare and the tailpipe?
