Default Longevity & Maintenance

Hi,
I just purchased a 2008 Tahoe, 5.3 LTZ with 9k miles on it. This is absolutely the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. I have a couple general questions.
1. What is the oil capacity for this engine? The book calls for 6.0 litres but this slightly goes over the full line on the dipstick. Or is not 6 literes and i am just interpreting the book incorrectly??
2. Is anyone using castrol syntec on this engine, if so, at how many miles do you change your oil?
3. I am open to hearing any tips on prolonging the life of this vehicle, does anyone have any recommendations on how to increase the longevity of this car?

Thanks

1. I i change the oil myself and i take about 5 and 3/4 qt. and you are right if i fill the whole 6 qt it over the checker area. i quess because some oil get left over when i drain.

2. I used Mobil 1 full synthetic ($22 per 5 qts at walmart) and i switched over since 36K but because i bought it used at 34K. so in term of when is safe or not safe to switch maybe someone else can tell you, sorry!!!

and i change the oil every 5K or 5 months... but that's my preference, there are others who do it at 7K or 6 months and some even more.

3. My tips on longevity is change the oil regularly, follow the maintenant schedule in your manual.... alots of those you can do it yourself, search this forums there are lots of good informations available here.
