I have been getting a "Service 4-Wheel Drive" on my 2007 Tahoe LTZ. It has occured twice and will not come again during that driving day after I reset it. Everything seems to be running right with no noises or strange behavior and the the transfer case shifts properly. Is this similar to the "Change Oil" warning in that it comes on afer a certain elapsed miles or passage of time?

This is road car, I do tow it with my Motorhome but that has not happened for several months ago. I will appreciate any advice and information I receive.

The events are logged. You probably don't want to hear this, but you will have to take it in the dealer to further troubleshoot. That error could be serious or just a faulty sensor.

I had it happen to me as well. The dealer had to change a part out that failed. Took them all of about an hour to do it. I even rode with the tech on the test drive, with the Tech II machine plugged in while we were driving showing the status.

This was the problem actually:

Make : GMC Model : YUKON XL 1500 Year : 2007 Manufacturer : GENERAL MOTORS CORP. Service Bulletin Num : 070419001 Date of Bulletin: JUN 01, 2007 NHTSA Item Number: 10022472 Component: POWER TRAINRIVELINE Summary:
INTERMITTENT/INOPERATIVE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, SERVICE 4WD SYSTEM LAMP ON AND DTC C0378 - FRONT AXLE SWITCH CIRCUIT SIGNAL INVALID. *KB

Well took the Tahoe for Service and, at the very least,am frustated and angry.

To respond to Responder TMW597, the TSB 07-04-19-001A has been cancelled by Document ID:1980028 for the following reason: "Resolution: Through the information gained from this service bulletin, a series of incremental engineering changes are being reviewd with the calibration and appropriate action will be taken to address this concern. Thank you to all who offered your time and valuable assistance in support of this effort." Instructions: If a customer brings in a vehicle with one of these concerns, no special action is required. Follow the normal diagnostic procedures in SI."

They took no "special action' nor, indeed, any action.

Here is the write-up from the dealer--- B Check 4WD Message comes on.- CAUSE: C0306 in history - 10 BUZ Axle/Differential 455 CPCT -- C0306 in history CO could not duplicate concern per PI CO all grounds all ok

There first response was that they neede a current Error Code in order to know anything, when I showed them how to make the Service 4WDmessage appear each and every time, they claimed "there is nothing morewe can do"

While I have not experienced any driving difficulty, I am concerned that I may be doing irrepairable damage.

Any input you provide shall be appreciated.

I kept getting the error from time to time, ONLY when I would engage the AWD. (It was raining in California off and on and I like to use the AWD in the rain.) So what I did was wait for the error to pop up, then I drove down to the dealership so I could show them the error. They figured out what it was, I think without even looking up that TSB. My understanding is that you're not doing any damage because you're not actually making a switch from 2WD to AWD.
