Message Center Not Lighting Up

Just bought a 2002 2500 8.1 litre. The message center does not light up when ignition is turned on. Any one have any ideas on the problem?

So I removed the instrument cluster, opened it up and found message center had it's pin connector unplugged. Plugged it back in and all seems fine.

Any ideas why it would have been intentionally unplugged?

more likely unintentionally not fully plugged in would be my guess...
What year?

2002. Fully unplugged when I opened up the unit. Not sure how it could become unplugged accidentally.Plenty of slack in wire.
