A message for those with children in their lives
I recently went back to an old forum I used to hang out at when I had my old truck and found a post from a guy that had this video in it. I am not typically one to post things like this but I though it carried a message that everyone should lend an ear to.
It's sad, I'll warn you now but having a son the same age and another son due in March will do that to you.
If you have the time please check it out. I think you'll be glad you did.

brother, after watching that video (and crying my eyes out), what can u really say........................b thankful 4 everyday we have with them, no matter how much they get on our nerves or cause us trouble doin' whatever. we just recently passed a guardian law up here that states anyone transporting a child (upto the age of 8 or 80 lbs.) has to provide a proper child/booster seat for them while in the vehicle. even though my son is 6 and the seat will only fit him for another 11 lbs (yes, i know he's a "tank" for his age), i'm gonna look into that seat for the kids for sure. gotta go give my kids a kiss and hug while they're sleeping. peace.
Thank You, Thank you, Thank You. These are from My 3 grandchildren who will have one of these for each of them by this evening. God bless that child and thank Him for his gift of life.
A very good message in this film for sure but if you looked real close it is actually a subtle advertisement for a car seat company (Britax Regent), while I do whole heartily believe in this message I think that this is a terrible way to capitalize.
All new cars sold in the U.S now include the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system to prevent the child seat from becoming dislodged in an impact.
The mini-van that Kyle Miller was riding in was not a GM product, his story was widely publicized and dissected within the automotive world, the reason the seatbelt became unlatched and allowed the seat to be ejected was that it was not fully seated (latched) due to obstructions from food being stuck inside the seatbelt mechanism.
None-the-less a terrible and very preventable accident that took the life of a magnificent child.
I have a 3-year-old little girl, any time her seat is removed and reinstalled I get it as tight as humanly possible and make certain that all anchors are properly latched and the belts and latches on the seat are in perfect working order and free of any debris or obstructions, I also tug and jerk on the seat with all my might as one final precaution to make certain that it is going nowhere if an impact should occur, I suggest we all do the same and protect our kiddos.

Thanks Dave,
This was my point exactly. Not necessarily the "cause" or the "cure" ... just the simple message that we all need to take a step back on those days when we are busiest to remember that we have little ones that rely on us to do everything in our power to protect them. To take a few more minutes to make sure that is done is worth a lifetime of happiness.
Thank you for the background info as well.
Hopefully some good can come from all of this.

On that note, Dave, I had similar feelings. The first thing I did was search all the internet hoax websites because I sensed the advertising for those 2 brands of car seats.
The question I have is why are there not more tethers/anchors in the 07 Tahoe? Because of the rules that my children's school has for loading/unloading children, our 2 year old's car seat has to be in the seat directly behind the driver which does not have any anchors.

If you have the bench seat then you get top anchors at all three seating positions but lower anchors at only the center and passenger side seat, the center row buckets have lower and top anchors in each seat.
The front passenger seat and 3rd row seating have no LATCH anchors because it simply is not safe to have small children in these positions.
The reason for the lack of lower anchors directly behind the driver seat is safety, the seat is a 60/40 design with the larger part being towards the driver side, in high speed crash tests with two child seats attached via the LATCH system to this portion of the seat the loads can be so great that the seat frame can fail.
If you must use the seat directly behind the driver use a top tether and the seatbelt shoulder harness to attach it and if done correctly it is safe and will distribute crash impact G forces in a manner that will not cause the seat frame and attachment points to fail. The 2nd row center position is by far the safest place to put a single child.
