Default Misfire Code & TCC

I have my truck 1998 Chevy Suburban in the repair shop for a transmission overhaul. The tech told me that one of the issues that I have is the truck is sending a misfire code which is disabling the TCC torque converter. I have about 160,000 miles on the truck and I know that one plug fowls about every 3,000 miles which is most likely causing this misfire code. is there a way to disable the misfire code from disabling the TCC? eventually I will put a new engine in but for now the tech tells me that this will burn out the torque converter if it continues. He is going to replace the wires and plugs also.
