Default My DIC just died, burning smell

I have a 2007 Suburban LTZ 2WD. I was driving down the road a couple weeks ago and noticed my DIC was kind of flickering a little bit. Now last week I started my Burb up and I smelled a metallic burning smell, I naturally looked down to see if the check engine light was on and I noticed the DIC as well as the gear shifter display went out completely. It hasn't come back on since. I'm kind of screwed bc I cant see milage, mpgs, when I need an oil change etc... Does anyone know what the heck happened? How can I fix this? I called the dealer and they want $580 for a new cluster. I really can't afford that at all. Thanks.

you can probably find a cluster on ebay for a lot less. i would start by checking your fuses first to see if they saved your cluster. that's what fuses are for

Do you think I need to replace the whole cluster for just that one portion that died?

Might want to pull the IP out and check out this thread and see if any of it applies... if you can find the burnt component you may be able to replace/repair it yourself...
