Sounds like you don't want to do the work to get it "free" so its down to how much is it worth to you to update it. You won't get your $ back when you trade it in or anything, but it would be nice to have some more updated restaurants or roads.

Sad thing is that it's worth the $ to invest that into a 7" touch pad that you could mount in front of it and use newer maps from the 'net.

Best advice I could give you is go look in a TL forum and ask the same if anyone has done the upgrade, to see if it changes anything worth the $.
