New Member, Z71 or LTZ
I use the nav every day, just get it. it's 2012, not having nav is like not having power windows.
this is the 2012 Holden (GM) Colorado:
2012 Holden Colorado – first details -
so, you can expect something similar for 2013 maybe for the Tahoes... (just a guess)

If you have the time, patience and are willing to travel, you might find exactly what you want by shopping online. There may not be a huge selection of 2010 or 2011 Z71's out there today, but you never know what will be listed tomorrow. Go to searchtempest.com and you can search Craigslist nationwide if you want to. Autotempest.com covers Auto Trader, Vehix, Cars.com and the rest.
It took a few months of checking every couple of days but I found the model I wanted, with the right equipment and in the right color, at a dealership an easy two-day drive from home. Yelp.com helped me find a reliable repair shop in the dealer's city to check it over.
Then--the weekend before I was to fly, buy, and drive home--I found the same Suburban locally, only in color choice #2.

if the 2013 tahoe is all new, the suburban will be as well.
If you need a burban, also check out the expedition, and the sequia, and even the explorer has 3 rows of seats. or XC90, (but that's also do for a refresh)
MSN autos has lots of info on competitors and a comparison page. I see GM needing it by 2013, gas prices going up, and even with it's good looks, the Tahoe has been on a roughly 5-6 year refresh cycle. when was the last one? the GMT900 actually was shown in 2006, released as a 07.
According to wiki:
GMT900 2007 - Current
GMT800 1999 - 2006 (7 years)
GMT400 1998 - 1998 (10 years)
so I'd wager either 2013 or 2014, but in any case, shop around. I've been nothing but disappointed with my bought new '09 Tahoe LTZ... for $57,000 I just expected... more, ya know, something that worked...

Yea, go to Toyota, check out the sequia , take a test ride and notice how cheap the interior looks and feel the tinny ride. then get toyota's best price and then proceed to RUN like hell to the chevy dealer!! My 07 Suburban 2500 has 85,000 miles on it and has had 1 warranty related issue. There's a reason Burbs are so popular
my '09 bought new has been back to the dealer OVER 20 times. GM has cut me:
$1,350 check - SAT nav does not work as advertised
$300 - Bluetooth does not work fully with iphone as advertisde
$100 - sorry we can't build a car worth ****
I offered to let them give me a longer warranty vs. the $1,350... they wounldn't even take that bet on their own car!
On my way to work today; rattles from the inside! sounds like the rear seats. with the windows partly down in the back, they are barely attached to the vehicle! it's like they are held in place with gum! and not even good gum! used gum! I hate my tahoe with a passion, it's a $57,000 disappointment. Sadly, it's now 'worth' $37,000, so I have no choice but to keep driving it till the wheels fall off because I've lost so much. Never again will I go GM that's for damn sure. My friends Tacoma and Corolla are better put together.
I'd swap my Tahoe for a '09 X5 today, but I'm saving my pennies for a speed boat lol.
If anything, the Tahoe's a dissapointment. GM had the design right, then some bean counters though they could save $0.03 on every part in the vehicle from the tracing paper thin dash to the plastic 'wood grain' of a wheel barrow. To the sat-nav designed by a 90 year old for a 90 year old.... everything is just... so... wrong... I get in my buddie's A8? It's an Audi... not sure what model, he chip'd it and all sorts of crap, AWD 360HP turbo V6 or something. (Dyno, 360 at the wheels!). anyway, the leather, the fit, the finish, the sat nav, the trim, the plastic covers for any 'exposed' metal... wow. just wow. that's what $60,000 SHOULD buy. Maybe I'm too picky. I'm an OCD perfectionist with cars. Maybe I just need to realize that GM builds cars for the masses, not for people like me, who are willing to spend $10k more to get something 'perfect' I want perfect fit, finish, quality. 'that's good enough' is never good enough. It's perfect or it's $hit. and GM is fine with 'good enough' so I know my next one will be Audi, BMW, maybe Lexus... because they know what I want.

On a similar topic, I am looking at the '05-'06 generation and am torn between the three packages (LT, LTZ, and Z71). I am told the LT is HORRIBLE in snow and off-road. Is that true? Also, between the LTZ and Z71, how do they compare in snow and off-road environments?
i had an 03 suburban lt, i had an 08 lt and have a 10 lt. i have had locking diff on all of them. always get locking diff DID I SAY ALWAYS GET LOCKING. differentials. for off road and snow.. i have driven in 20 inchs snow and only had one issue. i turned into a block that had a 30 inches of snow. five minutes of shoveling. once i got traction and momentum. no issues and away i went.

I don't "off-road" for fun but I tow trailers a lot and often need to turn/reverse them on wet grass and light mud and it is pretty easy to do without causing damage to the grass or throwing mud everywhere. Reversing a trailer up a wet hill without tearing up grass is very challenging for any truck.
I also tow my smaller enclosed trailer, 6x12 ~4000# loaded, in the snow. It pulls and steers very well but braking is obviously crappy with a trailer on snow.
Oh, as far as miles, I think it depends on how much you drive and how long you plan on keeping it. I don't drive a ton of miles. When I got my 05 it was about 3 years old and had 55k. Now it is 7 years old and has 87k. If I was putting 20k miles a year on a truck and wanted a newer one every 2 years I would be more concerned about how many miles it had when I got it, but that's not how I drive or buy. I am getting a 1 ton DRW soon and 200k mile trucks are looking like good bargains to me because I only drive 5k to 8k miles a year.

AFAIK, the '05-'06 was only available as a LS, LT, & Z71. (LTZ came along in 2007 w/ the NBS) As long as you get 4WD and the G80 locker differential, you'll go anywhere you want to. If you want to go rock crawling, then you're in the wrong market.

Thank you! I do not want to go rock crawling so this is more for snow and mud driving. Two follow up questions:
1) How do I check if a used suburban has the G80 Differential or the LSD as they are NEVER on the spec sheet? Is there a trick in the VIN?
2) I did drive an '06 LTZ (as per the paper) and was wondering if the AWD system in that is up to snuff or is just worse?
thank you again
