Default Peeling door handles: if anyone still needs this info

A few days ago in another thread, I mentioned that my '07 Suburban had the same peeling chrome handles that quite a few forum members have dealt with. I was aware that GM had made some sort of allowance for Tahoes but not for Suburbans (same damn handles, though).

In2pro suggested I take the truck in to the dealership anyway, see if they'd take care of it for safety reasons, and maybe sweeten the deal by having them change the oil. Excellent idea. But the only Chevy dealer in town is part of a multi-make mega-mall not known for their great customer service, so I went looking for some ammo to bring with me.

On the NHTSA's website I found GM Service Bulletin 09239 dated July 2010, titled "Special Coverage Adjustment...Door Handle Lever." It's listed under "2007 Tahoe" and nowhere else, but it covers Escalades, Sierras, Yukons, Avalanches, Silverados, Tahoes...and Suburbans. Free replacement for up to 10 years/100,000 miles. Reimbursement if you've already paid for them.

It runs 86 pages, though only the first few are relevant. So if anyone still needs to replace the handles, here's the direct link:

I own a 2007 Suburban and my dealer replaced them no questions asked. As you stated, all those vehicles fall under the same catagory.

I'm glad I found this thread by accident...my wife has been complaining about that since we got the truck in april. Taking it to the dealership this week...

EDIT:
just looked through the Service Bulletin and my '07 Suburban VIN falls just outside the "certain models" listed on the 2nd page....anyone have issues with this before i waste a trip to the dealership?

Thank so much for the info!! I have a '07 Avalanche and few months after we bought it started having problems with it(if it wasnt one thing was another). Local dealer employees wouldn't not give us a decent service(not to mention a "good service") and we got tired and stop going when we had a "minor problem" like this one.

Should've taken my own advice sooner, but the wife's car with the three-pointed star has been in the shop for some major engine work. Made it difficult to give up the 'burban for a day or two.

I now have a nasty cut on my middle finger from the driver's door handle--hurts like hell. Louis or Breanne from Chevrolet Customer Service, I'll be in touch.

Default Thanks this worked

Took my new to me 2007 Tahoe to dealership to get handles taken care of and they fixed all 4 no charge. At first they hesitated I mentioned I read about the safety bulletin and they fixed with out any hassle! Thanks, I have been a member of jeepforum.com for years glad to find another great forum for help and advice!
