Maybe Steering Shaft
I had this same issue with 03 Suburban. I read many articles concerning the steering shaft. The spline area can become dry. Then when turning ,pressure is built up and cannot slide. Then you engage a small bump and the dry metal to metal pops. On the steering shaft inside the engine compartment and just below the brake master cylinder you will find a bolt running through the steering shaft. Take the bolt out and seperate the shaft. Take a can of WD40 using the straw and spray a liberal amount up into all areas of the shaft. Re install. This take about ten minutes. For my Suburban it was an instant fix and has last 18 months so far. If it happens again, I will repeat process. I hope this is your issue with such a simple fix. Let me know as I will be curious if its the same problem, Good Luck I am making a few assumption here, mainly that the steering system is the same for both years.

I have the same issue on a 2006 Suburban I just bought. I thought it may be a body mount.....
Im sorta scared to fool with that steering shaft and take it apart to lube it.....It is pretty easy?
Any thoughts?
