No, I can't say that I've ever heard a cooling fan running. Does it run all the time, or does it turn on as needed?
I'll try driving around with nav on and nothing else and see if I can tell... but here in Florida, it's still pretty difficult to drive around without the background noise of the AC, for at least a few more months...

After you have been driving for a while and you have read error problems shut the vehicle down in a quite place, leave the radio on with the volume down and put your ear close to the radio, you should faintly hear the fan spinning, it is a similar fan that is used to cool CPU's in computers. If you can’t hear it have your unit repaired or replaced under warranty.

Update on my tahoe:
My brother brought my Tahoeto the dealer on Thursday, for the "inserta map disc" error and the"NO GPS" Icon. They swapped out the radio (it was over-nighted to them) on Friday 11/2, but when the Nav came on, it said I was in Maryland again, when the truck is really in NY! Thiswas the same thing that happened when Ibought the truck. The techswere on the phone with GM and OnStar, and they are now going to replace the GPS antenna, as they think IT is not giving the radio the GPS signal. I will know more on Monday when they get the antenna installed.
So I have about $1,000 in toys and accessories in boxes at my house waiting to be put in, and I won't see the truck till Monday . . . . . looks like I need to find something else to do this weekend!
Ah. . .

No GPS Signal Update -
They replaced the radio, but it was still not getting a GPS signal. The GM techs told them to replace the GPS antenna, which is on backorder, so they gave me the truck back. The next day, the gps started working, but then a few hours later, the NO GPS icon came on again. I think I'm gonna try buying the antenna myself (its $38) and replace it and see what happens. Now is a good time to open the huge service manual I bought!

They got my NAV working !
Just wanted to let everyone know I got my NAV fixed yesterday. They replaced the GPS antenna, and it works fine now. You think that the GM Techs would have told them to replace the $40 antenna BEFORE they replaced the $3500 radio !
Thanks for all of the advice out there.

From your report the dealer didn't contact GM Tech-Assist until after they replaced your head unit and why on earth would they call Onstar for guidance in fixing your navigation unit?
Sounds like either you or your dealer have gotten some wires crossed.
