problem with remote door lock
I have a 2002 Suburban with an intermitant remote key fob issues. The only time the key fob works is if the sun is shining on the dashboard. Very strange. I know that the onboard part of the system is just underneath the dash in front of the steering wheel. Any ideas?
Sounds like a bad solder joint on the circuit board for the receiver in the car. Things expand when hot, contract when cold, and over time, this leads to cracked solder joints on printed circuit boards, and failures like you describe. If you can find their receiver board, it likely just needs touch up of solder joints by someone who is good with a fine tip soldering iron.
The cruise control hasn't worked on my 1996 C1500 in many years, and in researching it recently, sounds like the likely cause is similar, and that folks have fixed it just by pulling the PCB out of the housing (on the firewall under the hood) and touching up the solder.
