Default "QUICK DISCONNECT" heater hose connectors are really "FOREVER POWERLOCK" connectors

Aren't these supposed to disconnect when you squeeze the white tabs? Either I'm doing something wrong or this is a complete failure of a design. Does anybody know how to operate this "quick disconnect". I don't want to start mangling things in frustration. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

No. They require a tool that pushes inside the connector.

I wonder what the white tabs are for that clearly are there to be squeezed inward? Anyway, I managed to clear enough barb to attach the hose tightly with a hose clamp instead of trying to use that connector.

I was able to remove the tee with no special tools. Followed this video and it was very helpful.
