Rattling seatbelt retractor....2007 Tahoe.
I have a new 2007 Tahoe LTZ with 500 miles on it (I have had it about 3 weeks). When I hit 'chatter' type bumps I hear a 'rattle/ticking' sound coming from the pillar that houses the driver side seat belt. I pulled off the panel and tapped on the retractor and spring inside rattled pretty good. I have isolated the mechanism as much as possible by wedging felt pads between the mechanism and the frame and have tried to eliminate the sound by 'encasing' the mechanism without affecting seatbelt moving/function. The problem is that no matter how much I isolate the mechanism, the spring inside still moves. Has anyone else had this problem or is there something else inside that panel that could be moving? I am 99.99% sure it is the retractor. I hate to take it to the dealer for something like this because chances are they may mess up something else. Before I did the isolation, I could 'punch' the panel when installed and I could hear the spring moving...it has to be the retractor. Any suggestions (other than take to dealer which I might end up having to do if I can not get rid of the rattle myself). Thanks!!!
I have a squeeking issue, but I haven't located it yet. I will look at the seat belts, but it actually sounds like it's comming from the rear for me. That and it's sporadic.
Fun chasing down squeeks and rattles....you can chase them for weeks and weeks and never really find the culprit...GM's response to squeeks and rattles, "Turn up the stereo"....hehehe.
