i have a 1986 c20 suburban with a 454 and i am wondering how and if i can take all smog stuff off of engine to clean it up and would it be legal

 

I doubt '86 is outside the smog laws. Besides it wouldn't make it run any better and would set a bunch of codes.

 

i always heard it makes them run better??????? but i guess your right..it would set a bunch of codes off..

 

i have a carb model they dont have computer to set codes do they and i will be getting a new set of headers soon thats why i wanted to remove it

 

Afraid they do. The ECM controls the carb, timing, etc. Started in 1980 on GM cars and suspect trucks followed shortly.

You can check for a "Check Engine" lite during the startup lamp check. I'll bet you have one.
