Your right they do draw less power but as for the heat output.......Meh, I dunno if they feel hotter than the stock bulbs then you probably are right.
However, back to the task at hand.....if you use the BBQ grill paint for your headlight housingthat partykkoul was talking about then it should be able to withstand a good amount of heat so I think you would be good to go.

HIDs produce less heat then standard halogens and a good paint for the housing is Krylon Fusion.....It's made specifically to bond to plastic without any prep.
If you don't seal them good, I'm sure they'll have condensation problems. Mine never have. Make sure after you are finished with your clearing mod, put just the back of the lights in the over for a couple mins, not the outer plastic, to heat up the silicone, take them out, add some of the sealant you bought and put the plastic front and rear together and hold them for a while really really tight. After they are assembled, add some more sealant around the whole outside and let them sit overnight before you put them on your car.
