Ride Control Compressor Blown - But $700?? YEOW!
2007 Suburban 1/2 T 4WD LTZ with Ride Control. 73,000 miles.
I towed my new Airstream about 400 miles and then the next day I got this message on the DIC: Service the Suspension System. I went to a local Chevy dealer and they did a one hour trouble shoot. Verdict: the compressor exhaust valve is stuck and the compressor must be replaced for $729. After they picked me up off the pavement, I said ok, and they have ordered the part to be installed Friday (tomorrow), so that we can tow our trailer home Sat.
Sound fair? Does these blow often?

I agree, in many auto repair situations its always a good idea to ask for the defective when possible...there may be a core charge on it thou...
If you decide you don't need or want the part you can always give it right back to them to dispose of or chunk it yourself if its not repairable....

Have you check GM Parts Direct on-line? They'll be cheaper than the dealer. I'm guessing that it's not a tough job to replace. Might have to remove the wheel for easier access tho.
