Default Side Blind Zone System Unavailable Update

I've got my Suburban at the dealership getting new rings & pistons as well as a few other things including looking at the intermittent "Side Blind Zone System Unavailable" warning in the DIC. They were unable to duplicate my issue but did some research and said they found that there is a program update that addresses this exact issue. Sweet! I thought... Until they told me its a $100 charge to do this. My question is, why am I paying for a computer update when this was obviously a problem that was discovered by GM? Its not like it is replacing parts...

Default well

well, they have to pay for the 13+ people they killed somehow...

Tesla updates are free. so are Microsoft Windows updates.

So are iOS updates to your iPhone.

But, hey, GM wants $100 for them.

I'd have a little 1on1 with the manager and GM customer service and let them know just how you feel about being charged for a software update.

the update wouldn't exist unless they knew it was a faulty product.

I suspect it's the dealer, not GM, that wants $100 to do the update. I had several updates done to my 2007 and incurred no charge.

I was also quoted $100 to update the navigation unit when I took it in and said it was rebooting every time I entered an address. I think I will contact GM customer service.

Default wow

Elon has stated (Tesla Motors).

(I am paraphrasing)

"It's terrible to make a profit on service".
"
It's not right when a company makes money off of consumers because their product is faulty."

Ohh, and here's the firmware change log.
