something heavier than 0-20w
Question for you folks. My notional thought it that 0-20w oil for me 2020 tahoe is excessively thin. I've considered that it is specified only to improve Fuel Milage rather then effectively protect the engine. I think the 0 is good to get the oil flowing but one warmed up in was contemplating 0w-30 or even 0w-40? I intend to keep this truck from as long as its cost effective to do so, so longevity is my major goal.
Thanks All

Good info. While it's probably true that a lighter weight oil will contribute to better fuel mileage, I doubt the manufacturers would risk longevity for an incremental increase in mpg.

Stick to the recommended oil.
Even though it's thinner, it has been engineered to produce the same film strength and friction as old thicker oils. It contains film formers and calcium borate.
The thin oil is necessary in modern engines to generate the correct pressures for the various hydraulic systems. I wouldn't mess with it. A lot of engineering and testing has gone into the recommendation.
