Default Speedometer not working, fuse or ??

2004 Tahoe LT, 1GNEK13T14J265965.

Was driving today, looked at panel and speedometer said "0". All other panel readings were OK, car running OK.

Could not find a fuse or relay for speedometer in owner's manual. Did I overlook it....or is this a mechanical/cable problem?

Thank you

Did a search and it is not a cable issue. Electronic it seems.

Drove and parked a number of times today. Two times the speedo read ZERO upon start and drive. Four times the speedo acted normally.

I am due for a LOF shortly and will ask dealer to check this out. I have a extended service contract. Probably will hear the old "sorry...unable to duplicate" line. Any advice on how to proceed?

you need new stepper motors. you can either have a cluster repair service fix it or search youtube on how to do it yourself.

You can always try pulling the IP out and making sure the harness connection is solid and seated well...
I doubt that an extended agreement will cover electronics, but you can always ask...

Thanks for the replies. The Chevy dealer did a scan or sweep and said I need a new instrument cluster. Repairs not an option.

I re-read my service contract and did not see this cluster excluded. I sent them a fax asking to confirm my reading of the contract.

Do I need a GM part#...or is there a rebuilt cluster in my future? What if they want to install something from China?

I am happy to say the dealer called to say..... they checked with Zurich, the contract holder and cluster is covered, minus my deductible.

Do I need a GM part or................?

if its under warranty the dealer will install a new gm cluster. your old cluster will be sent to York electronics for core.
dealerships don't install aftermarket parts for warranty claims.

This is also why Dealerships have the perception of being more expensive, the dealership service department will most of the time use OEM parts and not aftermarket unless you request them...

for customer pay, yes. Other than suspension, brakes and a few other items; oem is the only part available.
GM won't pay for warranty work if you put on aftermarket parts (good business sense to sell your own products). For aftermarket warranties, customers want the oem part.

Does anyone supply aftermarket clusters?

I will put on cheap line products it customers want it...brakes for example...but if it comes back for brake squeak noises, you know what the next recommendation will be...oem.
