thanks for the reply. any ideas why i am getting the clunking feel in the wheel at slow speeds when turning back and forth mostly when in reverse? dealer says everything fine. looking to give them some advice. my car is 2007 tahoe LT.

Its " The squeaky wheel gets the grease" but as of lately its been my experience that the squeaky wheel gets cut out with an oxy/acetylene torch and is melted down in front of the other wheels as an example of what NOT to do....but I digress... check to make sure the chassis is lubed, and as was suggested in another posting try lubricating the front sway bar bushings...
check that the wheel lugs are at torqued....

My 07 Avalanche is doing something like that. Quiet over bumps, does not wander or follow grooves or crown in the road. But when turning left, I get a boingy clunk that sometimes clunks again after going straight or starting out again from a turned stop. I think its not a ball joint.

Does this fancy new rack and pinion steering setup mean the intermediate steering shaft is no issue?

accelerating from a dead stop duplicate a front suspension turning sound in a sway bar bushing?

I might buy a set of urethane with grease fittings in if this will fix it.

At any rate, I just bought it today and I need to get under it and lube everything. I may put it on stands and have the Mrs. crank the wheel lock to lock to see if it will duplicate without weight on it.

I spoke to the dealer today. They said the steering shaft issue had been resolved in the 2007+.

If there are alot of miles on it, you might be looking at a control arm/ ball joint assembly replacement. The lowers are $167.00 at my dealer.

Same problem with mine as well. 07 Tahoe, MFD date is 05/06. I know they sell an updated shaft for 00-06 models and I did that on my 01. I'm guessing the design changed in the 07+ models but not sure. I had it up in the air a few days ago and I pulled on whatever I thought may be loose, no luck. It going in this week for a possible rear engine seal leak, I'll mention the clunk nosie also.

Update: Just had my Intermediate steering shaft replaced at dealer. My truck feels brand new. The problem has been 100% solved. I have a 2007 Tahoe LT - so bottom line, the NBS and re-design they did in '07 does not eliminate the ongoing GM issue.
