Default suburban lost lots of antifreeze, once

I made a short local run (1 mile to bank, sat at drive-thru, then on about .25 to a shopping plaza) in my 2004 Suburban LT 5.3L (109K miles). It was a moderate winter day here in the Atlanta area. After shopping, I came out to find a puddle of antifreeze under the engine directly between the front wheels. I'd estimate the amount at 1-2 quarts. I could see it dripping from some braces under the engine, but could not tell the source.

Since it was only 1-2 miles home, a decided to get it back where I could crawl underneath. However when I got home there was no obvious source of the "spill", no burning smell nor smoke, and no further loss (as far as I could tell from the overflow bottle). I have refilled the overflow to the proper level and have driven about 50 miles with no further loss. Not a drop!

So I don't have a warm fuzzy about taking my weekend trip to Chattanooga. And I wont until I have some idea about this problem.

Any ideas??

Coolant leaking from a pinhole in a coolant hose when under pressure. When you shut down coolant no longer circulating so it builds up pressure.

Welcome to the forum.

I'd check the weep hole on the water pump. This is a classic response when the bearing and/or seal starts to fail.

What they sayeth ^^^^^.

It leaks, then quits, making you think you are going mad. Then it goes out at the worst of times.

And when you replace the water pump do not use Dexcool. I am on my third new (not rebuilt) water pump in the Suburban. Then again, maybe a rebuilt is better.
