I will be picking up a 09 LTZ 6.2L next weekend.
I was reading the hitch is part of the frame and maybe weaker than my 2000. Please say no.

My 2000 hitch was pretty solid. Just weaker engine and brakes. The 2000 was bolted to bottom of the frame and bumper. I do tow over the rated limit. Anyone compare the two side by side?????

I'll look at my wife's '04 and my '07 and let you know. Just looking at them when hooking up, they look the same. Did you check your new one out yet?

 

no I have not seen it live. See if there is a area that bolts to the bumper around the hitch /receiver. I would hate for that to be free floating.

The '04 bolts on to the bottom of the frame at the rear end while the NBS is attached to the ends of the frame which explains why it is higher. From an engineering standpoint, I believe the new one is a little stronger.

With that said, I'd be careful about towing over the limit as not only does it place extra stress the drivetrain but your brakes will not be adequate.

I have triple disk electric over hyd on the trailer.

Is there any type of connection near the center of the hitch.
OK my 2000 is bolted with 8 bolts. 3 on each end from underneath like you said,,,,,,, then 2 right under the bumper.

Extra question-- Do the safety chains interfere. Looks like the hitch is recessed. Would not want the chains scratching the bumper cover.
Heck I may have to hit a local dealer and check this all out. I know the Silverado is rated for 10K. is it very close to the same frame/hitch as the tahoe?????

 

update....Neighbor has 07 or 08 Tahoe LT with hitch.
I see the chains will clear.
Hard to tell if any bolts from center area of hitch to frame/bumper.
If the sivlerado is that same setup... I hope to get its rating. Otherwise I think the 2000 is a tad beefier.
