Default Things to look for in a late 80's Suburban?

Hi, I'm obviously new to the forum. I'm in the process of looking for a late 80's suburban with the roll-up back window (non-barn style rear doors). It will be my beach rig hear in Oregon. I've never owned a suburban before, I'm mechanically inclined and from the little bit of research I've done I'd like to find 350, 1/2 4x4 if possible.

When I look at these rigs what should I be carefully looking at and checking out prior to buying? Any major problems with these years?

Thanks for the help

well look over the running gear, one that old will likely either be redone, or in need of being redone... the tailgate your talking about could be a problem, as if i remember correctly, they either worked, or didn't.

can't go wrong with the 350. other than that just look everything over good parts are pretty cheap and not hard to find.
