Default Tools for Strut Top Nut

Can anyone tell me the right tools to use to remove the top nut from the struts from a 2009 Tahoe? It is a 18 mm nut but is down in a hole and I need some way to hold the shaft while loosening the nut.

Thanks for the help.

if the old strut is garbage, clamp a vise grip on the strut rod between the spring coils. if you need to reuse the strut...I use a pass thru socket set. make sure you are using a good spring compressor...truck springs are strong.
