With a proper hitch, the weight will be fine. I dragged a 7,000-lb trailer all over the country (including the Rockies) with my '01 half-ton. Biggest concern is the rear axle weight rating. It's easy to overload, and it's weak semifloater. Check your weights on a scale once you're fully loaded.
