Has anyone run into the TPMS not fitting into their after-market wheels? Bought a new set of 20" Budniks and a set of OEM TPMS. The TPMS valve stemis too big.

What happens if you don't use TPMS? Just a message in DIC or will not havingaffect anything else?

 

I would also like to know what happens if you don't install them in the new rims. Also is there a way to tell if the tpms will work with a rimbefore you buy them?

 

GOT 24's and i dont have the tpms, the sensor was too long. 07 burb. just got that annoying yellow light on the dic.

 

i have 24's and the factory sensors on the car are the metal ones and i went out and bought the rubber ones and they fit fine on the aftermarket wheels

 

...have the rubber OEMs which are the new version. The lip on the TPMS that holds itin the wheel is not deep enough to actually hold the TPMSin place. Plus, the TPMS OD is wider than the hole in the Budnik rim.

Oniscus - regardingthe annoying yellow light on the DIC - does it stay on all the time or just when you scroll through the menus?

 

spray some tire lube on the rubber tpms stem then pull it thru.

 

Yellow light is always on. When you start the car it says service tire monitor, but if you push the menu button it clears that but the yellow light still does stay on

 

If anyone is having issues getting there TPMS to fit there after market wheels....look into getting mounting straps. They are made specifically for TPMS. Any, reputable tire shops should be able to get them.

 

Patrykkoul - thanks for the info regarding the DIC.

AZSCTACO - mounting strap is a new one for me. Is it a metal band that resides around the entire inside of the wheel? Do these mounting straps work with OEM sensorsor do they come with their ownsensors?

charlie pachanga - rims are too thick and the valve stem hole is only 7/16".

 

I know that I will get flamed for this, but oh well.

Deflate your spare tire, drill 3 extra holes, and mount all four of them in the spare rim. At least you won't have the DIC warning light.

Is that ghetto??? Heck yes, but if I have a $50k SUV with a set of $4k wheels, I wouldn't want a warning light all the time. If you are scared or worried, find a wheel shop that does wheel repair, and get them to drill the holes. If you are still worried, run just enough PSI to turn off the light. I wouldn't drive on the rim, but it will be fine for just holding 30 PSI.
